EOTECHÕs unique reticle patterns are a criti- cal to delivering fast target acquisition and MOA accuracy at any range. EOTECH reticles feature a 68 MOA ring surrounding a 1 MOA center dot allowing the shooter to quickly pick up and lock on a target.

The standard ring found in most reticles equates to approximately 68" (5'8") at 100 yards.

EOTECH One Dot Reticle

Our most popular reticle offered, the 68 MOA ring with 1 MOA dot provides three usable aiming points. The aiming points above are based on the following load: .223 cal. 62 gr. 2,900 vel. When using other loads and calibers, the opera- tor will have to establish the ranges associated with the aiming points. When using a shotgun, the 68 MOA ring can be used to represent shot patterns but will vary based on choke and shell selection. For ordering this reticle, the model codes will end in -0.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the EOTech HWS 518 unique compared to other holographic sights?

The EOTech HWS 518 stands out due to its use of easy-to-find AA batteries and side-mounted buttons, which allow it to be positioned closer to a magnifier. This feature helps in conserving rail space, making it a versatile choice for various firearm setups. Unlike some other models, the HWS 518 is not night vision compatible, which may be a consideration depending on your operational needs. Its robust design is water-resistant up to 10 feet, making it suitable for diverse environments.

How does the 68 MOA ring and 1 MOA dot reticle benefit shooters?

The 68 MOA ring with a 1 MOA dot reticle allows for rapid target acquisition and precise aiming. This configuration provides three usable aiming points, which can be particularly advantageous when engaging targets at varying distances. The large ring helps in quickly centering your target, while the precise dot ensures accuracy. This makes the EOTech HWS 518 ideal for both tactical scenarios and hunting applications.

What are the battery life expectations for the EOTech HWS 518 using different battery types?

The EOTech HWS 518 offers impressive battery life, with lithium batteries providing up to 2,500 continuous hours at a nominal setting. Alkaline batteries offer slightly less, at around 2,200 hours under the same conditions. These figures are based on a nominal brightness setting of 12 and can vary with higher or lower settings. This flexibility allows users to choose between battery types based on availability and preference, ensuring the sight remains operational across various scenarios.

How does the EOTech HWS 518 perform in extreme temperatures?

The EOTech HWS 518 is designed to operate effectively in a wide range of temperatures, from -40°F to 140°F. This makes it a reliable choice for both arctic and desert environments. However, extreme temperatures can affect battery performance, so it's advisable to carry spare batteries when operating in such conditions. This adaptability ensures that the sight can be used in a variety of climates without compromising functionality.

What mounting options are available for the EOTech HWS 518?

The EOTech HWS 518 is compatible with both 1" Weaver and MIL-STD-1913 rails, offering flexibility in mounting options. This compatibility ensures that it can be easily integrated into most modern firearm setups. When choosing a mount, it's crucial to ensure it is securely attached to maintain zero, especially in high-recoil situations. For more on optics and mounting solutions, explore our Optics, Sights & Lasers collection.

Is the EOTech HWS 518 suitable for use with shotguns?

Yes, the EOTech HWS 518 can be effectively used with shotguns, particularly due to its 68 MOA ring reticle. The ring can represent the spread of shot patterns, which varies based on choke and shell selection. This feature makes it easier to anticipate the impact area, enhancing accuracy when using shotguns for hunting or tactical applications. However, users should practice with their specific setup to understand how the reticle aligns with their chosen ammunition.

How does the EOTech HWS 518 handle water exposure?

The EOTech HWS 518 is water-resistant up to a depth of 10 feet, making it suitable for use in wet conditions. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who operate in environments where rain or water exposure is common. While it can withstand temporary submersion, it's important to ensure the sight is properly sealed and maintained to prevent long-term water damage. Regular checks and maintenance can help preserve its water-resistant properties.

What are the trade-offs of using AA batteries in the EOTech HWS 518?

Using AA batteries in the EOTech HWS 518 provides the advantage of easy availability and replacement, but there are trade-offs to consider. While they are convenient, AA batteries generally offer less runtime compared to specialized lithium batteries. This means users may need to carry additional batteries for extended operations. Despite this, the flexibility to use different battery types, including rechargeable options, makes the HWS 518 adaptable to various situations.

How does the EOTech HWS 518 integrate with magnifiers?

The EOTech HWS 518 is designed to work seamlessly with magnifiers, thanks to its side-mounted buttons. This design allows the sight to be mounted closer to the magnifier, optimizing rail space and enhancing the overall shooting setup. This integration is particularly useful for shooters who need to switch between close-quarters and longer-range engagements quickly. For more on selecting the right magnifier, visit our Magnifiers collection.

What should be considered when using the EOTech HWS 518 in tactical scenarios?

In tactical scenarios, the EOTech HWS 518 offers several advantages, such as quick target acquisition and robust construction. However, users should consider the lack of night vision compatibility if operations extend into low-light conditions. Additionally, while the sight is durable, regular maintenance and checks are essential to ensure reliability under stress. Understanding and practicing with the reticle's aiming points can also enhance performance in high-pressure situations.
