NBC-17 SOF GAS MASK FILTER APPLICATION:

The filter provides reliable protection against solid and liquid aerosols, smoke-producing substances, radioactive particles, bacteria, viruses, vapors of organic and inorganic acids, hydroxides, organic solvents with a boiling point above 65°C, ammonia, amines, acid gases, agricultural chemical combustion products, tear-producing agents, irritants, choking agents, blister and nerve agents, (e.g., bromoacetone, CS substance, organic compounds of arsenic, phosgene, hydrogen cyanide, cyanogen chloride, mustard gas, organophosphates) – sarin, IVA, VX and other toxic substances, (e.g., benzene, toluene, vinyl chloride, fluorine, hydrogen fluoride, sulphur oxides, phosgene, phosphoric acid and its organic derivatives, chloroacetic acid, nitric acid, aldehydes, mixtures of inorganic acids and organic substances).

Gas Mask Filter Lifetime:

Breakthrough time of a gas mask filter is tested according to EN 14387+A1 at humidity 70% and flow rate 30 l/min. The approximate lifetime (usage time) of a filter may be calculated by comparing the concentration at the workplace and the minimum Dynamic Adsorption Capacity (DAC) for the filter.

Gas Mask Filter Storage and Maintenance:

Each NBC-17 SOF gas mask filter is sealed in a plastic bag by the manufacturer. Store the filters unopened in a clean place at even temperature, most appropriate at -5 to +30°C and relative humidity below 80%. Sealed filters tolerate conditions of -30 to +50°C and RH below 95%. Do not try to regenerate the filters. Never clean the filters with compressed air or compressed water.

Gas Mask Filter Disposal:

After use, gas mask filters are considered special refuse. Dispose of them according to current waste treatment regulations. Dismantle from the respirator and dispose of as solid waste. Refer to local authority regulations for disposal advice and locations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of threats does the NBC-17 SOF CBRN Gas Mask Filter protect against?

The effective usage time of the NBC-17 SOF filter depends on the concentration of contaminants in the environment. The filter's breakthrough time is tested under specific conditions, such as a flow rate of 30 liters per minute and 70% humidity. In practical scenarios, the filter's lifespan will vary based on these factors, and users should monitor for signs of breakthrough, such as smell or taste of contaminants. It's crucial to replace the filter immediately if any signs of breakthrough are detected to maintain safety.

How long can the NBC-17 SOF filter be used before it needs replacement?

The effective usage time of the NBC-17 SOF filter depends on the concentration of contaminants in the environment. The filter's breakthrough time is tested under specific conditions, such as a flow rate of 30 liters per minute and 70% humidity. In practical scenarios, the filter's lifespan will vary based on these factors, and users should monitor for signs of breakthrough, such as smell or taste of contaminants. It's crucial to replace the filter immediately if any signs of breakthrough are detected to maintain safety.

Is the NBC-17 SOF filter compatible with all 40mm gas masks?

The NBC-17 SOF filter is compatible with most 40mm NATO threaded gas masks, as it follows the standard round thread specifications. However, it is not compatible with the MB-90 PAPR unit due to its shorter threads. Users should verify compatibility with their specific gas mask model to ensure a secure and effective seal. For more information on compatible gas masks, visit our Gas Masks collection.

What is the shelf life of the NBC-17 SOF filter and how should it be stored?

The NBC-17 SOF filter has a shelf life of 10 years when stored properly. It should be kept in its factory-sealed packaging in a clean, temperature-controlled environment, ideally between -5 to +30°C with a relative humidity below 80%. Sealed filters can tolerate more extreme conditions temporarily, but prolonged exposure to high temperatures or humidity can reduce their effectiveness.

Can the NBC-17 SOF filter be regenerated or cleaned for reuse?

No, the NBC-17 SOF filter cannot be regenerated or cleaned for reuse. Attempting to clean the filter with compressed air or water can damage its structure and compromise its protective capabilities. Once the filter has reached its breakthrough point or has been used in a contaminated environment, it should be disposed of according to local regulations for hazardous waste.

What are the dimensions and weight of the NBC-17 SOF filter?

The NBC-17 SOF filter measures 90 mm in diameter and 85 mm in height. It weighs approximately 205 grams, with a tolerance of ±5%. These dimensions make it a compact and lightweight option for personal protective equipment, suitable for use in a variety of emergency preparedness scenarios.

How should the NBC-17 SOF filter be disposed of after use?

After use, the NBC-17 SOF filter should be considered special refuse and disposed of according to local waste treatment regulations. It should be dismantled from the respirator and treated as solid waste. Users should consult with local authorities for specific disposal advice and locations to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

What makes the NBC-17 SOF filter suitable for military and CBRN specialists?

The NBC-17 SOF filter is used by military personnel and CBRN specialists due to its robust construction and comprehensive protection against a wide range of threats. Its hard plastic components offer durability against shock and impact, making it reliable in operational use. Additionally, its certification under EN 14387+A1 and CE marking ensure it meets stringent safety standards required for professional use.

What are the breathing resistance specifications of the NBC-17 SOF filter?

The NBC-17 SOF filter has a breathing resistance of less than 200 Pa at a flow rate of 30 liters per minute and less than 800 Pa at a flow rate of 95 liters per minute. These specifications ensure that the filter provides effective protection while maintaining a manageable breathing effort for the user. This balance is crucial for long-term use in high-stress environments.

How does the NBC-17 SOF filter fit into a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan?

The NBC-17 SOF filter is an essential component of a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan, particularly for scenarios involving CBRN threats. When paired with a compatible gas mask, it offers critical protection against airborne hazards. It is especially valuable in urban settings where chemical spills or terrorist attacks might occur. To further enhance your preparedness, consider integrating this filter into a broader strategy that includes other protective gear and emergency supplies, as outlined in our chemical protection guide.
