Description

The LANTAC E-BCG Gen2 DI Side Charger is an enhanced bolt carrier group designed specifically for .223/5.56 caliber firearms. This BCG is not compatible with standard AR-15 upper receivers and must be used with a side charging upper receiver. For optimal fit, LANTAC recommends pairing it with their LA-N15 Raven Side Charging Billet Upper Receiver. Engineered in an M16 full auto style, it provides increased mass and lock time.

Constructed from 8620 Steel, the bolt is made from Carpenter 158 or 9310 steel and is Magnetically Particle Inspected for reliability. The entire carrier assembly is treated with a QPQ Nitrided finish for enhanced corrosion and wear resistance. The patented design features unique shrouded and forward-facing gas ports, resized for improved gas venting, resulting in a flatter, smoother operation with reduced upper receiver pressurization, especially when using a suppressed barrel.

The BCG's flared boss at the tail enhances lock position consistency, improving accuracy. The LANTAC CP-R360 domed head cam pin, crafted from 17-4PH Stainless Steel, reduces wear within the upper receiver. Weighing 11.7oz (excluding handle), this BCG promotes smoother operation and increased lock time. Gas keys are properly staked at four points, using grade 8 fasteners. The forward porting and unique shape assist in reducing pressurization inside the upper receiver, though it's not a complete solution for over-gassed rifles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the LANTAC Enhanced BCG DI Side Charger unique compared to standard BCGs?

The LANTAC Enhanced BCG DI Side Charger is designed specifically for side charging upper receivers, offering unique features not found in standard BCGs. It includes a patented design with shrouded and forward-facing gas ports that improve gas venting, resulting in smoother operation and reduced upper receiver pressurization. Constructed with an M16 full auto style, it provides increased mass and lock time, enhancing the firearm's performance, especially when used with a suppressed barrel.

Why is the LANTAC Enhanced BCG not compatible with standard AR-15 upper receivers?

The LANTAC Enhanced BCG DI Side Charger requires a side charging upper receiver due to its design and operational features. Standard AR-15 upper receivers are not designed to accommodate the side charging mechanism that this BCG employs. The side charging feature provides a more ergonomic and efficient way to charge the firearm, which is why it necessitates a compatible upper receiver like the LANTAC LA-N15 Raven Side Charging Billet Upper Receiver.

How does the QPQ Nitrided finish benefit the LANTAC Enhanced BCG?

The QPQ Nitrided finish on the LANTAC Enhanced BCG provides superior corrosion and wear resistance. This finish enhances the durability of the bolt carrier group, ensuring it withstands harsh environmental conditions and extensive use. The nitriding process increases surface hardness, which reduces friction and wear over time, contributing to the longevity and reliability of the BCG in various shooting scenarios.

What is the significance of the M16 full auto style design in the LANTAC Enhanced BCG?

The M16 full auto style design of the LANTAC Enhanced BCG increases the mass and lock time of the bolt carrier group. This design choice is significant because it contributes to the smoother cycling of the firearm and enhances reliability, particularly in rapid-fire or suppressed shooting conditions. The increased mass also helps in managing recoil, providing a more stable shooting platform.

How does the LANTAC Enhanced BCG improve accuracy?

The LANTAC Enhanced BCG improves accuracy through its flared boss at the tail, which enhances lock position consistency. By ensuring a more consistent lock position, the BCG reduces variations in the bolt's engagement with the barrel extension, leading to improved shot-to-shot accuracy. This feature is particularly beneficial in precision shooting scenarios where consistency is crucial.

What materials are used in the construction of the LANTAC Enhanced BCG, and why are they important?

The LANTAC Enhanced BCG is constructed from 8620 steel for the carrier and Carpenter 158 or 9310 steel for the bolt. These materials are chosen for their strength and durability. The 8620 steel provides a robust carrier capable of withstanding the stresses of firing, while the bolt materials are known for their toughness and resistance to cracking under pressure. This combination ensures the BCG can handle high round counts and perform reliably over time.

How does the LANTAC CP-R360 domed head cam pin reduce wear?

The LANTAC CP-R360 domed head cam pin is crafted from 17-4PH stainless steel, reducing wear within the upper receiver. Its domed design minimizes friction and contact points, leading to less wear on the internal components of the upper receiver. This feature is particularly beneficial for maintaining the integrity of the firearm over extended use, ensuring smoother operation and longer service life.

What role do the gas ports play in the performance of the LANTAC Enhanced BCG?

The shrouded and forward-facing gas ports in the LANTAC Enhanced BCG are designed to improve gas venting and reduce upper receiver pressurization. By efficiently venting excess gas, these ports contribute to a flatter shooting experience with less recoil and smoother cycling. This is especially advantageous when using a suppressed barrel, as it helps manage the increased back pressure typically associated with suppressors.

Why are the gas keys on the LANTAC Enhanced BCG staked at four points?

The gas keys on the LANTAC Enhanced BCG are staked at four points using grade 8 fasteners to ensure they remain securely attached during operation. Proper staking prevents the gas key screws from loosening under the stresses of firing, which is critical for maintaining a reliable gas seal. This secure attachment is essential for consistent cycling and the overall reliability of the firearm, especially in high-round-count scenarios.

What are the limitations of the LANTAC Enhanced BCG in terms of over-gassed rifles?

While the LANTAC Enhanced BCG features forward porting and a unique shape to reduce pressurization, it is not a complete solution for over-gassed rifles. Users may still need to adjust their gas system or use an adjustable gas block to fully mitigate over-gassing issues. This BCG can help manage some of the symptoms, such as excessive recoil and wear, but addressing the root cause of over-gassing often requires additional modifications to the firearm's gas system.
