Description

The Faxon Superfinished AR10 Bolt Carrier Group – Gen 2 – Nitride is engineered for shooters utilizing large-frame AR platforms chambered in .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 8.6 Blackout. Viewing "MIL-SPEC" as the baseline, Faxon refines materials, inspection, and surface finishing to deliver smooth cycling, reliable extraction, and long-term durability.

This BCG features a 9310 tool steel bolt that is fully heat treated, shot peened, and chamfered at the rear of the lugs to promote reliable cycling under high-pressure loads. All bolts are Magnetic Particle Inspected (MPI) to ensure material integrity. The entire assembly receives a QPQ salt bath nitride treatment to increase surface hardness, reduce friction, and provide excellent corrosion resistance compared to traditional phosphate finishes. Faxon's Superfinish further reduces friction and fouling for smoother operation and easier cleaning.

Designed to be DPMS Gen 1 compatible, the carrier uses grade 8 fasteners and a fully staked gas key to ensure gas system reliability throughout the service life of the rifle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Faxon Superfinished BCG suitable for high-pressure loads?

The Faxon Superfinished BCG is designed to handle high-pressure loads through its robust construction and advanced finishing techniques. The bolt is made from 9310 tool steel, which is fully heat treated and shot peened to enhance its strength and durability. Additionally, the rear of the lugs is chamfered, promoting reliable cycling even under the stress of high-pressure rounds. This makes the BCG particularly well-suited for shooters who frequently use powerful calibers like .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 8.6 Blackout.

How does the QPQ salt bath nitride treatment benefit the BCG?

The QPQ salt bath nitride treatment significantly enhances the performance and longevity of the BCG. This treatment increases surface hardness, which helps in resisting wear and tear during extensive use. It also reduces friction, allowing for smoother operation and easier cleaning. Additionally, the nitride finish provides excellent corrosion resistance, which is crucial for maintaining functionality in harsh environmental conditions.

What calibers are compatible with the Faxon Superfinished BCG?

The Faxon Superfinished BCG is compatible with a range of calibers, including .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 8.6 Blackout. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for shooters who own multiple rifles chambered in these popular calibers. The BCG's design ensures reliable performance across these different cartridges, providing flexibility and convenience for users who may switch between calibers based on their shooting needs.

Why is Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) important for this BCG?

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a critical quality assurance process used to ensure the material integrity of the BCG. By detecting surface and subsurface discontinuities, MPI helps identify potential flaws that could compromise the bolt's performance. This inspection step is crucial for maintaining the reliability and safety of the firearm, especially in high-stress shooting scenarios where equipment failure is not an option.

How does the superfinish reduce friction and fouling in the BCG?

The superfinish applied to the Faxon BCG is designed to minimize friction and fouling during operation. This advanced surface treatment creates a smoother surface on the bolt carrier group, which reduces the amount of debris and residue that can accumulate. As a result, the BCG operates more smoothly and requires less frequent cleaning, which is particularly beneficial in extended shooting sessions or tactical situations where maintenance opportunities are limited.

What is the significance of using grade 8 fasteners in the BCG?

Grade 8 fasteners are used in the Faxon BCG to ensure robust and reliable assembly of the gas key. These fasteners are known for their high tensile strength, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of the gas system under repeated firing conditions. The use of grade 8 fasteners, along with a fully staked gas key, helps prevent gas leakage and ensures consistent cycling, which is vital for the overall reliability of the firearm.

How does the Faxon BCG enhance the cycling reliability of an AR10?

The Faxon BCG enhances cycling reliability through several design and material choices. The chamfered rear lugs and the use of high-quality materials like 9310 tool steel for the bolt and 8620 steel for the carrier contribute to smooth and consistent operation. Additionally, the BCG's nitride finish and superfinish reduce friction and fouling, further improving the cycling process. These features collectively ensure that the firearm functions reliably, even under demanding conditions.

What are the benefits of the DPMS Gen 1 pattern compatibility?

The DPMS Gen 1 pattern compatibility of the Faxon BCG offers significant advantages for AR10 users. It allows the BCG to be used with a wide range of AR10 rifles that adhere to this pattern, providing flexibility and ease of integration. This compatibility means that users can upgrade or replace their existing bolt carrier group without worrying about fitment issues, making it a convenient option for those looking to enhance their rifle's performance.

Why is the extractor made from S7 tool steel?

The extractor in the Faxon BCG is made from S7 tool steel due to its exceptional toughness and resistance to shock. S7 tool steel is known for its ability to withstand high-impact forces, which is crucial for the extractor's function of removing spent casings from the chamber. This material choice ensures that the extractor remains durable and reliable over time, even with frequent use in high-pressure shooting environments.

How does the Faxon BCG contribute to overall firearm maintenance?

The Faxon BCG contributes to easier firearm maintenance through its advanced design and finishing processes. The superfinish reduces fouling, meaning less residue accumulates during firing, which simplifies cleaning tasks. Additionally, the nitride treatment enhances corrosion resistance, protecting the BCG from environmental damage. These features reduce the frequency and intensity of maintenance required, allowing shooters to focus more on their activities and less on upkeep.
