Mountain Ready Spotlights PFAS-Free Outdoor Gear and Checks the Claims Behind the Label

PFAS-free and fluoro-free outdoor gear at Mountain Ready

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Carolina, October 13, 2026 — Mountain Ready (MountainReady.online) is spotlighting outdoor gear that the manufacturers themselves state is free of PFAS, the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances often called "forever chemicals", which have long been used for water repellency in outdoor gear. As more states restrict PFAS, shoppers are asking which products are genuinely PFAS-free. Mountain Ready's answer is to check each claim against the manufacturer's own information before it goes on a product page.

🌲 Gear the makers state is PFAS-free or fluoro-free

  • Edelweiss climbing ropes: the Pitchlight 9.5 mm and Spirit ARC 8.8 mm, which Edelweiss states are PFAS-free.
  • Peregrine sleeping bags: the Saker and Anatum bags, with a water-repellent finish Peregrine states is PFAS-free.
  • Outdoor Designs gloves, beanies and gaiters: including the Fuji, PowerOn and Diablo Tec lines, which Outdoor Designs states are PFAS-free; Diablo Tec uses a C0 (PFAS-free) DWR.
  • Swix fluoro-free ski waxes: the HS series (HS6 Blue, HS8 Red, HS10 Yellow), which replaced Swix's older fluorinated LF waxes, and the PS series.

🔍 Checking the claim, not just the label

In October 2026, Mountain Ready corrected several ski wax listings where supplier-provided copy wrongly described fluoro-free waxes as fluorinated. Each listing now matches the manufacturer's own description.

📜 Why it matters now

A growing number of U.S. states are restricting PFAS in consumer products. New York and California began restricting PFAS in apparel in 2025. Minnesota banned intentionally added PFAS in ski wax as of January 1, 2025, and Maine and Colorado ban PFAS in ski wax from 2026. New York, Colorado and Maine have later deadlines specifically for outdoor apparel designed for severe wet conditions.

"People want to know what's in their gear, and they deserve a straight answer," said Peter Zeppieri, founder of Mountain Ready. "We don't put 'PFAS-free' on a product because it sounds good. We check what the manufacturer says, and when a listing gets it wrong, we fix it."
