Description

The RMR Type 2 is designed with a patented housing shape that absorbs impact and diverts stress away from the lens to increase durability. It also offers redesigned and upgraded electronics that have been proven to perform when mounted on slide ride pistols and other small arms. It’s suitable for military, law enforcement, concealed carry self-defense, target shooting, and hunting applications. The RMR® Type 2 Adjustable LED sight puts the illumination control in the user’s hands. Easy-to-use buttons on the sides of the optic allow the user to adjust the illumination brightness, toggle between manual and automatic modes, and power down the RMR for storage. The automatic mode functions the same as the LED RMR version. If a manual mode has been chosen, the RMR will remain in manual mode for 16.5 hours following the last push of a button. After 16.5 hours, the optic will default back to the automatic mode so that the RMR will be ready for your next mission or task. All RMR Type 2 Adjustable LED sights are compatible with night vision devices, with the 3.25 dot size being the most popular. The user can also lock out the buttons so that the RMR functions in automatic mode only. This ensures that inadvertent button pushes do not cause a loss of aiming solution. The 6.5 MOA dot in the RM07 gives the user the biggest dot available in our LED and Adjustable LED operated models. The bigger dot size gives the user the ability to locate the dot quickly which is ideal for close quarter engagements, or is a great solution for those who have vision problems.

NOTE: The RMR® Type 2 has identical physical dimensions and mounting footprint to that of the original RMR Type 1. If selecting an RMR for mounting on the Glock® MOS, Springfield® OSP, Walther® PDP, or H&K® VP9 Optics Ready, a Trijicon RMR® mounting kit (AC32064) is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Trijicon RMR Type 2 suitable for military and law enforcement use?

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 is designed with a patented housing shape that absorbs impact and diverts stress away from the lens, greatly enhancing its durability. This makes it particularly suitable for military and law enforcement applications where equipment must withstand harsh conditions. The upgraded electronics ensure reliable performance even when mounted on slide ride pistols, which is critical in high-stakes environments. However, users should consider the need for regular maintenance and battery checks to ensure optimal functionality in the field.

How does the adjustable LED feature of the RMR Type 2 enhance its usability?

The adjustable LED feature allows users to control the illumination brightness, toggle between manual and automatic modes, and power down the RMR for storage. This flexibility is particularly beneficial in varying lighting conditions, such as transitioning from bright daylight to dim indoor settings. However, users should be aware that while manual mode offers customization, it defaults back to automatic after 16.5 hours to conserve battery life. This feature ensures the optic is ready for the next use but requires users to adjust settings again if specific preferences are needed.

For insights on optimizing your gear for different environments, check out our guide on red dot sights.

Is the Trijicon RMR Type 2 compatible with night vision devices?

Yes, the Trijicon RMR Type 2 is compatible with night vision devices, making it a versatile option for low-light operations. This compatibility is crucial for tactical scenarios where visibility is limited. The optic's ability to maintain performance in conjunction with night vision enhances its utility in both military and civilian applications. However, users should ensure their night vision devices are properly calibrated with the RMR to avoid any potential aiming discrepancies.

For more on night vision and thermal optics, visit our night vision guide.

What are the benefits of the 6.5 MOA dot size on the RMR Type 2?

The 6.5 MOA dot size on the RMR Type 2 provides a larger aiming point, which can be advantageous for quick target acquisition in close-quarter engagements. This size is particularly beneficial for users with vision problems, as it is easier to locate and focus on the dot. However, the larger dot may obscure smaller targets at longer distances, making it less ideal for precision shooting. Users should consider their typical engagement scenarios when selecting dot size.

Explore more about choosing the right optics for your needs in our rifle scope guide.

How does the RMR Type 2 handle extreme environmental conditions?

The RMR Type 2 is built to withstand extreme environmental conditions, including being waterproof up to 20 meters. Its ruggedized battery contacts and electronics ensure performance in harsh environments, making it reliable for outdoor and tactical use. However, users should be mindful of battery performance in extreme temperatures, as lithium batteries can be affected by high or low temperatures, potentially reducing operational time.

For more on preparing for extreme conditions, see our winter emergency kit guide.

Can the RMR Type 2 be used on different firearms platforms?

Yes, the RMR Type 2 is multi-platform-friendly and can be mounted on rifles, pistols, shotguns, and carbines. This versatility makes it a valuable asset for users who own multiple types of firearms. However, it is important to ensure that the correct mounting kit is used, especially for specific models like the Glock MOS or Springfield OSP. Improper mounting can lead to alignment issues and affect accuracy.

For more on firearm compatibility and upgrades, visit our Glock parts guide.

What is the battery life of the Trijicon RMR Type 2 and how does it affect usage?

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 boasts a battery life of over four years when used at a medium brightness setting. This long battery life is ideal for users who require a reliable sight over extended periods without frequent battery changes. However, extreme temperatures can affect lithium battery performance, potentially reducing the operational lifespan. Regular checks and carrying spare batteries are recommended for critical missions.

For tips on managing power in survival situations, see our energy and power guide.

How does the RMR Type 2's design contribute to its durability?

The RMR Type 2's patented housing shape is engineered to divert impact force away from the lens, significantly enhancing its durability. This design is particularly beneficial in high-impact scenarios, such as tactical training or hunting, where equipment is prone to drops and knocks. While the robust construction increases reliability, users should still perform regular inspections for any signs of wear or damage to maintain peak performance.

Learn more about maintaining tactical gear in our tactical gear guide.

What are the tradeoffs of using the RMR Type 2 in automatic mode?

Using the RMR Type 2 in automatic mode allows the optic to adjust brightness based on ambient lighting, which is convenient for users transitioning between different environments. However, automatic mode may not always provide the desired brightness level for every user, especially in rapidly changing light conditions. While this mode conserves battery and simplifies use, those requiring specific brightness settings for precision shooting might prefer manual adjustments.

For more on optimizing your setup, check out our red dot sight guide.

What should be considered when mounting the RMR Type 2 on different firearms?

When mounting the RMR Type 2, it's crucial to use the correct mounting kit for your specific firearm model. This ensures proper alignment and stability, which are essential for maintaining accuracy. The RMR Type 2 shares the same mounting footprint as the original RMR Type 1, but specific models like the Glock MOS may require additional mounting kits. Improper installation can lead to misalignment and potential damage to the optic.
